“Devastatingly beautiful.” When your wife chooses those words to describe a potential relocation area, you know you’ve hit pay dirt. We visited the mountains in Western North Carolina, seeking a new place to call home after Katrina shattered the idyllic life we enjoyed on the Gulf Coast.
We found “Autumn Lane” in the high country northwest of Asheville, and spent half our married lives together with a journey that began on a lonely, seldom used road in the mountains. It is our road even if I walk it alone.
