The Book: The Forest of Forever
The Author: Rob Blackwell
The Story: Soren Chase’s life was shattered eight years ago after an encounter with a supernatural being left three friends dead and him branded as a murderer. Since then, he’s become a paranormal investigator, facing off against a host of deadly creatures. But his investigation into the haunted Reapoke woods may be his most dangerous case yet.
Something evil is lurking in the forest. Some say it’s the ghost of a preacher who vanished two centuries ago; others claim the woods are the site of sinister experiments by a shadowy organization. Hired to find a missing girl, Soren is determined to learn the truth. But what he discovers is far darker than he imagines—and it may force him to confront his own tragic past.
From the author of the bestselling Sanheim Chronicles, The Forest of Forever is the start of a new series that mixes urban fantasy, mystery, and suspense into a novel that you can’t put down. Because nothing is what it seems in The Forest of Forever, and once you enter, you may never leave.
Interview with Rob Blackwell:
Kindle Scout Team: What is the inspiration for the story?
I’ve always loved stories about haunted forests, ones so steeped in tragedy that people are afraid to go near them. But I wanted to put a unique twist on it: taking a story you think you know and building to a surprising and epic climax.
Kindle Scout Team: Tell us about your series.
This is the first novel in a series about paranormal investigator Soren Chase. Soren is driven because he’s the sole survivor of a brutal paranormal attack. He’s trying to avenge his friends, but he’s up against vicious monsters and faces long odds. However, he’s relentless and ingenious.
Kindle Scout Team: What draws you to this genre?
I love urban fantasy such as Buffy and The Dresden Files. They set the standard for their ability to combine humor, horror and mystery. I love using historical events, legendary mythological creatures, as well as my own creations, and blending them in the contemporary world.
Review by Mr. Wolfe:
The Forest of Forever is a captivating new story with new characters set in the world the author created in his first trilogy, which started with A Soul to Steal. This makes it a great book for readers new to the author, as well as familiar territory for those who are already fans of his work.
The world depicted in The Forest of Forever is one where supernatural beings live among us and may even look like us, but they do not think like us. They have their own motives and desires, and many care little for the lives and feelings of human beings. Most people live their lives unaware of the supernatural, but others — including the protagonist Soren Chase — were thrust into it by brutal and tragic events.
Blackwell’s writing improves with every book he writes, and that pattern continues here with a fresh new mystery. As much as I enjoyed his earlier work, I’d recommend The Forest of Forever as a starting point for new readers. It benefits from Blackwell’s growing experience as a fiction writer as well as the enthusiasm he brings to a fresh story in this genre.
Review by Kimbermcfar:
Wow , what a ride!!! First I would recomend you read “Closed at Dark” first it has alot of back story you will need in this book! The book starts out a little lame ( a prologue and a se’ance) but that is just to get the ball rolling… after that is non-stop action! I know a haunted forrest , but trust me, I know this book is a dark urban fantasy, but it scared me as much as Stephen King ever did!!!
Wow I just love the character Soren Chase, with only half his memories intact, he still trys to help people who have troble with the real monsters in this world! The first book will explain how Soren lost his memories and almost his life, when his best friend was killed.
There is a mystery in this book about how hard Soren is to kill, and trust me everyone seems to want him dead!!! Secret societies , demons ,and a lost little boy just trying to make it home! The ending was so unexpected and makes me VERY impatient for the next book in this series!! Write FAST!
