I enjoy a strong woman protagonist for a change in man’s world holding her own and then some.

Hetta Coffey is a sassy Texan with a snazzy yacht, and she’s not afraid to use it—most of the time.

She’s an intrepid cruiser, but wild rumors of marauding gangs of flesh-shredding giant Humboldt squid on a rampage in the Sea of Cortez could keep even Hetta tied to an expensive dock.

However, when the opportunity for an intriguing and highly lucrative charter arises she talks her best friend, Jan, into signing on for a mysterious cruise.

Damn the calamari! Full bank account ahead!

Review by V. Williams:

I am a die-hard Ms. Schwartz fan and have read all her Hetta Coffey books and one that wasn’t (in the Hetta Coffey series). Besides snappy, mostly believable dialogue between two BFF’s, I enjoy a strong woman protagonist for a change in man’s world holding her own and then some–thank you very much!

Not just an engineer, however, she is a woman with her own 45′ yacht. It’s obvious by her books that she loves and holds the Sea of Cortez in high regard as well as respects the people of Mexico as she throws in the appropriate Spanish with translation as well as boat lingo.

This book brings back Nacho. THAT was a surprise given his last involvement. Yes, there is a small but grudging attraction to the “bad” man with a heart and in this case is the secret person who charters her vessel through the Trob–her go-to for independent contracting work.

Luckily for us, Hetta still has Po Thang in tow, or vice versa, as well as Jan, her cohort in keeping just ahead of the law and the Mexican slammer.

Po Thang discovers a lonely dolphin and falls in love and there is a mysterious but gorgeous Scot who appears on scene to add to the fun. Where, or where is Jenks? These guys may be looking for deadly red squids or something smaller and JUST a little darker, but Hetta usually triumphs.

Not JUST a book–it’s a Hetta Coffey! Recommended fun read.
