Daily Review: On a City Street by Pat Wahler

The cure for a painful breakup requires drastic measures. And quite often, a moving van…
When veterinarian Carolyn Becker catches her fiance cheating, her problem-solving skills come to the rescue. She swears off love and leaves suburbia for a fresh start in St. Louis to launch a low-cost animal clinic…and bury the past.
But new beginnings can be complicated. Secrets surface when a mysterious man, a troubled teen, and an injured dog enter her life. Before she knows it, Carolyn’s best-laid plans unravel, and solutions are farther from her reach than Mars. Sometimes even a problem-solver can use a little help.
Especially when it comes to mending a broken heart.
A sweet romance story with hints of humor and mystery.
Fleeing a broken engagement, Dr. Becker takes the reader along on her adventurous ride through the streets of St. Louis where she attempts a new start.
She soon finds herself struggling to meet the quota required to keep the veterinary clinic where she works up and running. In her zest to help others recognize the need for proper care for their pets,
Carolyn finds danger lurking around every corner, and discovers evil as she’s never known it. In the beginning, she’s thankful for the help of a new acquaintance that has her back and perhaps a piece of her heart, until she has reason to doubt his motive.
Guaranteed to keep you turning page after page as the suspense builds.

On a City Street is a fast-paced contemporary romantic suspense story set in Saint Louis, Missouri.
After veterinarian Carolyn Becker discovers her fiancé cheating on her, she cancels her wedding and leaves her thriving practice in suburban Kansas City to open a shoestring-budget animal clinic in a low-rent district in Saint Louis.
Despite her dedication to protect animals, she discovers a dirty secret that it seems no one wants to acknowledge—or fix.
A surprisingly generous benefactor, a stranger who lurks in the shadows, a wayward teen, and a street-wise office manager all add to the cast of characters.

This is a sweet little romance, a great light read for summer, with plenty of intrigue, a little danger, some shady characters, a troubled teen, and the most precious pitbull ever.
And a bonus for this reader, it’s set in the city of St. Louis.
I enjoyed this one!
