Daily Review: Savannah Sleuth by Alan Chaput
March 6, 2019
What an interesting twist to the cozy mystery genre: secret societies, investigative priests, and snooping wives.
Though born to heirloom pearls, designer dresses, and lush garden parties, Savannah social icon Patricia Falcon and three of her closest friends spend their days in Savannah’s dark side rescuing abused women.
When Patricia’s darling mother, a prominent philanthropist, drops dead, the police are baffled by her untimely death. Patricia is devastated and recruits her three friends to help her investigate what she believes is murder.
“Savannah Sleuth” is a page-turning journey from Savannah’s Southern wealth and grace into the hidden corners of Savannah and across two continents in a deadly pursuit of justice.

The reason I loved this so much, was that it wasn’t your typical cozy mystery. There’s no meddling old granny, recipes or pet thrown into the mix.
It was a good old-fashioned mystery with suspense and thriller aspects to it (fast-paced whodunnit) but with so much Southern Charm that it was … cozy.
A truly unique new voice to the genre, I feel that perhaps Chaput may have spawned his OWN genre – let’s call it Southern Charm Suspense.
The characters are very well drawn, and I’m looking to get to the know this prestigious and mysterious Falcon family a bit more in future books. A thoroughly enjoyable debut.

What an interesting twist to the cozy mystery genre! Secret societies, investigative priests, snooping wives and more overlap in this interesting and entertaining plot that will have you convinced one person is guilty, but then again it could be that other person!
Excellent character development and quite shocking that the author has no problem killing off a character that you view as a core member of the cast.
I have no problem with a book ending with a cliff hanger as it tells me that there is another book coming, but be warned if you have issues with that then prepare yourself and have the next book already lined up and ready to read!

A good debut for the Vigilantes for Justice series by new-to-me author Alan Chaput set in beautiful Savannah.
I really liked the great characters, southern charm, twists and turns of this fast-paced mystery that kept me entertained and intrigued from the first page to the last.
Fans of this genre should plan to read this can’t-put-down book.

This is a great read, with several twists just as you think you have things figured out. Alan really brings Savannah to life but allows the story to move far beyond Georgia.
The book has particularly well fleshed out strong female characters. Their personalities really develop as the mystery unfolds.
Be sure to reserve lots of time to read it since you won’t want to put it down.
