Daily Review: Once Wicked by Cindy Stark
October 30, 2018
A cozy mystery, set in a quaint town in New England, an area famous for its witch trials hundreds of years past.
A witch in hiding.
An innocent spell.
Let the mayhem begin.
Hazel Hardy knows she shouldn’t tempt fate, but she’s desperate and…hello, cheap real estate. Her family’s fears don’t stop her from opening a teashop in the quaint New England village where the townsfolk once drowned her ancestor for being a witch. Unfortunately, times haven’t changed…much, anyway.
No worries. She swears she won’t stir up trouble…in a cauldron or otherwise. But then her customer’s husband turns up dead. Whispers of “murderous witch” point toward a seemingly innocent girl and Hazel can’t resist poking her nose where it doesn’t belong.
Real trouble shows up when she meets the charming police chief, who doesn’t like witches and who doesn’t hide his attraction to her.
Worse, she’s brewing a crush on him, too, and she finds she adores searching for clues to help him solve the case.
She convinces herself she’ll be fine as long as they find the murderer before she accidentally uses magic again or before he notices the crazy cat from her grandmother’s haunted house that’s stalking her.
Immerse yourself in murder, magic, and mayhem!
Oh my gosh, I loved this story!! But then again, I love books about witches. This one was one of the most charming, fun witch stories I’ve about ever read. A cozy mystery, set in a quaint town in New England, an area famous for its witch trials hundreds of years past.
The book is fast paced, with really cool settings like spooky haunted mansions and colorful characters, along with some fun witch spells and potions and spiced with a developing romance between the main witch character Hazel and the town’s hunky police chief.
What’s not to love?
I’d give this book a solid five stars. Super fun read!

Hazel comes from a long line of…witches; one of which was even killed for her practices. Hazel is secretive though. She doesn’t want anyone to know who she really is. Hazel owns Hazel’s Teas and Temptations and business is booming.
The quiet town of Stonebridge, Massachusetts is the perfect place for her tea shop. Hazel, being an earth witch, is trying to keep a low profile, but she’s just attracted the attention of a man who wants nothing to do with witchcraft.
Hazel quickly finds herself in trouble when a predominant customer’s husband dies. Trouble seeks out Hazel in the form of the Police Chief, Peter Parrish, who has his eye on her but wants so much more.
This was not one of my normal reads, but I do love me some Cindy Stark💕…so I read it.
And I am glad I did !
