THE INDIE AUTHORS GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE by Jeff Bennigton
March 22, 2012
In THE INDIE AUTHORS GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE, Jeff Bennington has written a gem of a book for indie writers of all experience levels who want not only to write a good book, but also to sell it.
For those of you who are not familiar with Jeff Bennington, he blogs regularly on The Writing Bomb, is an indie author with several novels under his belt and also is the proprietor of The Kindle Book Review. He is a young lion in the indie world, who, like so many other indie writers I have come to know, wants to share what he has learned about the new digital world of publishing to make the road to success easier for his fellow authors.
Bennington organizes the book into four parts: Why Indie?, Technicalities and Craft, Indie Publishing and Making it Happen.
This structure makes it easy for authors to focus on the issue at hand for them at the moment.
THE INDIE AUTHORS GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE is a how-to book on some levels and a why-to book on another. Bennington’s grasp of the intricacies inherent in the current publishing environment is obvious. He provides step by step instructions on marketing, editing, accessing Kindle Direct Publishing and a number of other subjects. But he also displays a genuine compassion for his comrades in the indie ranks, newbies, midbies and oldbies.
Here’s a quote:
“This book is designed to encourage and inspire authors in their craft, and the daily lives of those who dare to explore the new galaxies in publishing….THE INDIE AUTHOR’S GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE is about nudging new authors through the publishing process and offering helpful advice and encouragement in an environment that can be extremely draining.”
I highly recommend THE INDIE AUTHORS GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE and thank Jeff for being so generous about sharing the insights he has learned down in the pit, from the good old school of hard knocks.
